Novozymes EDUCATION Project in Latin America

NOVOZYMES EDUCATION PROJECT IN LATIN AMERICA

As part of Novozymes’ strategic long-term targets, the company has set a goal to educate one million people around the world about the potential of biology by 2020. To support this goal in Latin America, we developed Project EDUCATION consisting of three app-books, elaborated with the aid of experienced teachers and scientists. The app-books are part of the Novozymes New Perspective Collection and aim to engage readers to reflect on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and how biology can help solve several humanitarian issues.

About the app

Oysters, by Chekhov, is a tale that talks about a delicate and urgent subject: hunger. This app-book is part of Novozymes New Perspective Collection, which brings tales by universal authors together in order to encourage reflection and action related to how biology can help solve some of our planet’s greatest humanitarian challenges. With touches of irony and full of scenes that cause the reader to explore the emotional and psychological character of the protagonist, Oysters offers a reflection on SDG 2 – Hunger Eradication.

About the app

The King of the Golden River, by John Ruskin, is a fairy tale about a foreign elder that visits a house where three brothers live during a storm. The good brother shelters him, but the other two evil brothers mistreat and expel him. They didn’t know who the elder was: he was “Southwest Wind, Esquire”, who brought rain to their fertile valley. The engaging reading invites the reader to reflect about how our relationship with water impacts our own survival.

  • The applications have encouraged students in the search for simple and joint solutions, with the aim of mobilizing and improving the surrounding community, making the school fulfill its actual role, which is to develop critical and active citizens capable of improving the society where they live in.

  • Using apps in classrooms such as those from the "Novozymes New Perspective" Collection is to provide our young people with contact with reading in a differentiated sensory experience, in addition to current information and motivation to understand how science, especially biology, can make the world better. The language of the media brings important worlds closer: youth, scientific knowledge, a sense of reality and protagonism.
Rosilei Ferrarini Rosilei Ferrarini Pedagogue – Technical Analyst at Sesi Paraná Management of Basic and Continuing Education
  • I realize that StoryMax applications, developed in partnership with Novozymes, come very close to what the learning workshops of Sesi School are looking for: an interaction among technology, student, teacher and learning. The contribution is immeasurable, since the actions proposed and reflections that short stories bring make us think in a context more encompassing than our own navel, they make us worry about our neighbor in the search for solutions to the biggest problems of our globalized world

  • The ODS Workshop has allowed our students to be involved in issues related to well-being of the community and society in general.Frritt-Flacc, Ostras and O Rei do Rio de Ouro applications have complemented these issues, involving sustainability and the environment, engaging everyone with social responsibility, and bringing classics from literature, short stories and other activities, providing young people with a critical social and practical reflection on these themes. The language used in the applications, in line with the world of young people, quality of the material, ease of handling, and the introduction of the applications in a technological environment of great interest to adolescents have resulted in the great use and dissemination of the APPs in the School and community.
Maria Del Carmen Dantas KormannCoordinator of Sesi School in Quatro Barras
  • Digital platforms contribute a lot to a better cognitive development of any individual, especially to young people who are increasingly aware of and connected to these technologies. The applications developed by StoryMax in partnership with Novozymes bring much more than a look at sciences by contributing to a better world, but also a new perception that together with small actions we can change and achieve a better world. At our school, ODS Workshop students have developed a vertical vegetable garden, encouraged by the proposed action in Ostras application. The quarter is already over, the students are already in another workshop but the vegetable garden is still there, growing and counting on the care of ALL our students, teachers and associates. It is in the small acts that we can change, if not the world, at least the place and environment that surround us.
Jean Carlo Polli de Carvalho Andrade Physics Teacher at Sesi School in Quatro Barras and Bocaiúva do Sul
  • The use of technologies in classrooms helps in the teaching and learning process, providing students with more dynamic, interactive and differentiated classes, building a dialogue between the theory and reality of students.
Michele Aparecida HobalMichele Aparecida HobalTeacher of Geography at SESI-CIC School
  • Learning by means of digital resources is the best way to reach the current generation. So relevant topics such as sustainability and actions of the individual in the community gain new contours in a virtual environment. A decisive resource for achieving the transformation we want and need.
Jean MöllerJean MöllerTeacher of Sociology at SESI-CIC
  • As an educator, I see that the use of new technologies helps us to develop the contents in a classroom. It is very gratifying to be able to work with ODS because we create in our students a sense of responsibility and commitment to society.
